A new look for the game, 2D/3D All-in-One + New Prototype Demo available!
Hey everyone!
We've added a lot since our last Devlog, so much so that we can now release a new prototype for you to check out! But first, let's talk about all the changes we've made, then we'll give you the controls for our prototype (still WIP), before finally leaving you with the download link for the build of our second Windows and Mac prototype.
2D Changes:
For starters, we have 2 functional snakes now! Well, the green snake can't do a spin in the air, but it can attack the other snake, move left and right, and jump.
However, as of right now and for testing purposes, the red snake has more health than the green one, so be sure to pick the red one if you want to have more chances to win ;P
Talking about winning, once a snake is dead, the map automatically changes to the 3D map! So no need to worry about changing builds manually. However, the snakes only have a normal attack for now, as the power attacks aren't ready yet (they aren't obtainable through the 3D map) but we hope to have that up and running in the next build.
3D Changes:
We have implemented a new art style for our game. It's less graphically intensive, so lower spec machine can expect to run it smoother now! (Especially Mac users lol). The map is now more compact but the layout is still the same as we showed in the last devlog.
As you can see, we have now two cameras that players can switch to at any time, the 3rd person camera, as seen above, or the Aerial Camera, where you can see more of the map (but less of your snake).
Also, the movement is fully implemented, and players can switch directions whenever they like. This means they can go anywhere as long as they follow the board directions.
Finally, you'll see a scoreboard on the bottom-right corner: every time you kill your opponent in the 2D battle, you score 1 point. We hope to have a score limit implemented by the next build so you can win (or lose) the game after reaching a certain amount of points. The green snake is player 1 while the red snake is player 2, so keep that in mind as you play.
Controls (3D Map - NOT FINAL):
For both snakes:
-Up arrow: Move up
-Down arrow: Move down
-Left Arrow: Move left
-Right Arrow: Move right
-Space button: Throw dice
-M: Change camera view (Aerial or third person)
Controls (2D Combat - NOT FINAL):
Green Snake:
-A: Move left
-D: Move right
-W: Jump
-L: Attack
Red Snake:
-Left Arrow: Move left
-Right Arrow: Move right
-Space button: Jump
-Q: Backwards spin (While jumping)
-E: Forwards spin (While jumping)
-Y: Attack
Quick note: While the game opens up with the 3D party map, you can press Esc to open the pause/debug menu. There, you can freely switch between the 2D battle map and the 3D map as you see fit, or restart the maps if you want to start again (or if your snake falls to and endless void in the 2D map lol). Just remember that every 3 rounds played in the party map, it will automatically switch stages!
That's all for now, have a great week!
