A look at the new Map, Round logic (WIP) and 2D snake!

Hey everyone!

We're finally back to give you another update on our progress on Party Snakes, which if you haven't noticed, we decided it to be our final name for our Project! (The name sure did stick around for a long while).

First, let's talk a little bit about  the 2D battles, more specifically the 2D snake: It can rotate now!

When you go left, the snake rotates to the left
And when you go right, it will rotate to the right! Pretty cool.

That's about it for now. We'll make sure to show off a lot more on this aspect of the game by the next Devlog (since we'll have to show it to everybody in our class by then).

Now, I'm sure you've all been waiting for the new 3D map. But first, let's talk about Round logic.

You see, since it's basically a party game, the snakes (players) have to go around the map collecting certain cards to use in the 2D battles. The players can decide which way to go, but their movement is decided by throwing a die, which goes from one to six, so they are limited by whichever number they get.

Last week we started implementing this central mechanic, however we decided to use the old map for testing purposes. Here's what we got so far:

The two players have their respective snakes idle at the start of the map. Pressing the Space Bar allows for the Die to roll, and the first snake (green) should move the number of spaces it got from the Die.

Once one player is done, it immediately switches to the other player so they can press Space Bar and roll their Die, and this goes on for the rest of the game. By the final game, players should spend about 5 rounds in the 3D map before entering the 2D battle stage, and then going back out to repeat this again.

The camera moves along with the snakes, however for now the snakes can't change direction, we hope that by the time we show the game again, the players can press the arrow keys in the direction they want to go before moving.

That's the progress we've made so far for the 3D mechanics. But we still have one more thing to show you!

Introducing the final 3D map:

This is the map where the players will spend their time playing the game, as you can see we've already added the elements and puzzle boxes where they can get power cards and solve mini puzzles. Since by now the map is a bit more intensive than the old map, we've decided for now make the spaces between the boxes bigger, otherwise our Mac computer (where we were designing the map) could have hard time handling the game. This could change by the final game however, but we'll sure let you know before the game comes out ;)

Anyway, that's it for us this week, hope to see you back again for our next update by the end of the month. Maybe we'll also have something very special ready by then!

Have a great week!
